1. Who we are

FindOwner is operated by Clearnorth AB (Swedish organisation number 559201-9979), Sweden. Clearnorth AB is the data controller for personal data processed through FindOwner.

Contact: hello@findowner.app · Privacy requests: privacy@findowner.app

2. What FindOwner is

FindOwner is a QR-based lost-and-found service. Owners protect belongings with FindOwner tags. If someone finds an item, they can scan the tag and contact the owner through FindOwner. Finders do not need an account.

FindOwner is not a GPS tracker and does not continuously track people or belongings. Location is only processed when a finder chooses to share it.

3. Information we collect

We collect personal information when you create an account, use FindOwner features, request printable tags, scan a FindOwner QR code, register interest, contact us, or otherwise interact with the service. Not every category below applies to every visitor — only what is needed for the interaction.

Account and profile

When you create or manage an account, we may process:

  • Name and email address
  • Profile photo, if you add one
  • Authentication information from Google if you sign in with Google
  • Account settings, such as notification preferences and onboarding status
  • Plan and billing-related identifiers if a paid subscription is linked to your account

You can sign in with Google or with a magic link sent to your email. We do not currently offer password or phone-based sign-in.

Items, tags and photos

  • Item details you choose to add (such as title, description, message to finders, and photos)
  • Optional reward text and currency you choose to display
  • Whether you choose to show owner display information to finders
  • Tag identifiers, status and links between tags and items

Finder and owner conversations

  • Messages sent through FindOwner chat
  • Conversation metadata needed to deliver the chat (including an anonymous finder session or token when the finder is not signed in)

Location shared by a finder

A finder may optionally share a location with the owner. If they do, we may process precise coordinates and related metadata (and an address string if one is provided). This is voluntary, one-off sharing — not continuous tracking. Approximate city-level location may also be derived from ordinary request metadata when needed for product features such as approximate maps.

Scan and session telemetry

When someone visits FindOwner or scans a FindOwner QR code, we may process technical information such as:

  • Timestamp of the scan or request
  • A one-way hash of the IP address and related technical request metadata
  • Device/browser information (such as user agent) and referrer, where provided
  • Your user ID if you are signed in, or an anonymous scan session identifier if you are not
  • Which tag or item was scanned

This helps operate scanning, show owners relevant activity, prevent abuse and keep the service reliable. If you scan while signed out and later create an account in the same session, we may link previous anonymous scans and finder activity from that session to your account.

Free printable tag requests

A visitor can download printable FindOwner tags without creating an account and without providing an email address. When they do, we generate a batch of available tags and a downloadable PDF.

Email is optional. If a visitor chooses “Email me a copy,” we collect their email so that we can send a link to the PDF, let them retrieve the same tags later, and avoid generating an unnecessary new batch for the same email.

We may process a one-way hash of the requester's IP address and related technical metadata to apply reasonable rate limits and prevent abuse. We do not store the raw IP on the free-tag request record. Downloading a PDF does not claim or activate the tags. We do not use an email submitted for a free printable-tag copy for marketing.

Interest lists and waitlists

If you register interest in paid plans, printed tags, business use or similar offers, we process the contact details and message you submit (for example name, email and any note you include) so we can follow up about that interest.

Support

If you contact us for support — including through in-app support messages — we process the information you send so we can respond and improve the service.

Billing

FindOwner does not currently offer paid subscriptions or sell and ship physical tags through an in-product checkout. If a paid plan is later enabled and linked to an account, payment would be handled by Stripe, and we may store related identifiers and subscription status needed to administer the plan. Stripe processes payment details according to its own terms and privacy notice.

4. How finder and owner privacy works

This is the model FindOwner is built around:

  • Finders do not need an account to scan a tag, message an owner or share a location.
  • Scanning a tag does not expose the owner's email address or phone number through FindOwner.
  • Owner identity shown to finders follows the product's owner-display settings. When shown, this is typically a first name and profile photo — not full contact details.
  • Chat is designed so finders and owners can communicate without sharing email or phone numbers with each other through the service.
  • Finder-shared location is optional. When shared, it may be precise and is stored so the owner can see it.
  • Tag QR links, anonymous chat links and certain share/print links act like capability links: anyone with the link can use the related feature. Treat them carefully and do not publish them more widely than you intend.

Profile information is not broadly publicly readable. Finder-facing owner details are provided through limited product interfaces and display rules, not as an open directory of user accounts.

5. How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • Provide and operate FindOwner
  • Create and manage accounts
  • Generate, send and allow retrieval of printable tags
  • Operate tag scanning and finder/owner interactions
  • Send service and transactional emails (for example magic links, welcome messages, new-chat alerts, unread-message reminders and location-shared alerts)
  • Administer plans and billing where applicable
  • Respond to support and interest registrations
  • Maintain security, prevent abuse and troubleshoot problems
  • Understand basic product usage through analytics
  • Comply with legal obligations

Account notification settings let you control certain email alerts (such as chat and location-shared emails). Transactional messages needed to sign in or operate the service may still be sent.

6. Legal bases (GDPR)

Where the GDPR applies, we process personal data on one or more of the following bases:

  • Performance of a contract / steps you request — for example creating an account, generating printable tags, scanning tags, chat, location sharing you choose to send, or administering a subscription.
  • Legitimate interests — for example security, abuse prevention, reliability, basic analytics and appropriate service improvement, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Consent — where FindOwner specifically asks for consent. You can withdraw consent at any time where consent is the legal basis.
  • Legal obligations — where processing is required by law, including accounting and bookkeeping requirements.

7. Sharing and service providers

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only as needed to operate FindOwner, including:

  • With finders or owners through FindOwner features, limited to what the product is designed to show or what you choose to share
  • With service providers that process data on our behalf
  • When required by law or to protect rights, safety and security
  • With your explicit consent, where applicable

Current relevant service providers and processors include (not every provider receives every category of data):

  • Supabase — authentication, database, storage and backend infrastructure
  • Vercel — hosting, application infrastructure and Vercel Analytics
  • Resend — transactional email
  • Google — Google OAuth / authentication
  • Stripe — subscription billing and related payment processing when a paid plan is used
  • OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — map tiles and reverse geocoding for shared locations
  • ip-api.com — approximate geolocation fallback based on request metadata

Clearnorth staff may access account or operational data when needed to operate, support or secure the service, under internal access controls.

Providers that process personal data on FindOwner's behalf do so under appropriate contractual and data-protection safeguards.

8. International data transfers

Some service providers may process data outside Sweden or the EEA. Where GDPR requires it, we use appropriate safeguards such as an adequacy decision or Standard Contractual Clauses.

9. Retention and account deletion

You can delete your FindOwner account from account settings. When an account is deleted, we delete personal account and product data associated with that account, including in normal cases:

  • Profile and account information
  • Items, conversations, location-sharing events and related personal product data
  • Scan telemetry linked to the account, its items or its tags
  • Support messages linked to the account
  • Interest/waitlist records matching the account or its email
  • Free printable-tag email associations matching the account email
  • Avatar and item photo files stored for the account

Physical tags that were owned by the account are released back to Available, so the same QR code can potentially be claimed again later. The tags themselves are not destroyed as digital records — ownership and item links are cleared.

We may retain limited information where needed for legal or operational reasons, including:

  • Limited billing identifiers without contact details (for example Stripe customer/subscription identifiers and plan status) for accounting purposes, typically up to 7 years
  • Billing and invoice records held by Stripe according to Stripe's and applicable legal requirements
  • Free printable-tag request records that are not removed by account deletion, which are purged on a scheduled basis after about 24 months
  • Anonymous scan telemetry that is not linked to an account, which is purged on a scheduled basis after about 24 months

Other personal information is retained only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including operating the service, security, dispute handling and legal obligations.

10. Your rights

Where applicable under GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion
  • Restrict processing
  • Object to certain processing
  • Data portability
  • Withdraw consent where consent is the legal basis
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Sweden, Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY)

You can update much of your profile information and delete your account in the app. Other privacy requests (including access and portability) can be handled by contacting privacy@findowner.app.

11. Cookies and similar technologies

FindOwner uses cookies and similar browser storage as needed to operate the service, including:

  • Authentication cookies to keep you signed in
  • An anonymous scan-session cookie so finders can use chat and related features without an account
  • Local or session storage for practical product features (for example retrieving a free-tag download or remembering UI state)
  • Vercel Analytics, which helps us understand basic product usage

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking certain cookies may affect how FindOwner works (for example sign-in or anonymous finder chat continuity).

12. Children / age

FindOwner accounts are intended for people aged 18 or older. If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian should create and manage the account on your behalf. Anyone may scan a FindOwner tag to help return a found item.

13. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including access controls and database security rules. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. For material changes, we will provide appropriate notice.
